We are looking at the Puyallup Fair in the 1940′s / 1950′s. In the photo you can see several rides including the Old Mill ride, Whip, Caterpillar, and the Fun House. These rides were added permanently by Edward Bollinger back in 1936. In June 1970, however, a fire stuck the fair which destroyed all the rides except the Coaster Thrill Ride. The Washington State Fair (renamed in 2013 – previously Puyallup Fair) still features the coaster ride today. It’s had several updates over the years of course.
During the fair you can visit their museum which has an old restored Whip car, Dodgem Car, and several old Mill boats.
On a side note, a few things are interesting in this old Puyallup Fair photo. The first being the amount of visitors – there is a lot of them. Look at the parking lot in the back! Also top left of the photo you’ll see a portion of the roller coaster ride. It looks exactly the same today 2013. In the middle of photo must be the Fun House experience or a building falling down. I don’t think that would go over to well with the building department today.
